Vilhelm Lauritzen created the VL38 table lamp at the end of the 1930s, in collaboration with Louis Poulsen, for the new building Radiohuset, the Danish Broadcasting House, in Copenhagen (today the Royal Danish Academy of Music). The fixture produces a downward directed light. The shade has a white painted inner side, which makes the light gentler and more pleasant. Furthermore, The angle of the shade can be adjusted for better light distribution. After World War II, both the VL38 and the VL45, which was also designed for Radiohuset, appeared in Louis Poulsen catalogues for the first time, and in 2016 and 2017 the VL38 was reintroduced in new contemporary LED versions.
